New First Aid Units Released

In mid 2020 the Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) endorsed the release of new versions of eight first aid units of competency within the HLT Health Training Package. These updates have been made to reflect industry best practice, expectations and current regulations, and are now available on the National Register.
Eight of our units are changing as follows:

| HLTAID014 Provide advanced first aid | HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid | Non-equivalent |
| HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy | HLTAID007 Provide advanced resuscitation | Non-equivalent |
| HLTAID016 Manage first aid services and resources | HLTAID008 Manage first aid services and resources | Equivalent |
Overall, the outcomes, skills and knowledge remain the same in the following units, with some minor additions and changes and rewording of content
- HLTAID009 – Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
- HLTAID010 – Provide basic emergency life support
- HLTAID011 – Provide first aid
- HLTAID012 – Provide first aid in an education and care setting
Some changes include the addition of life threatening bleeding, arterial tourniquet and haemostatic dressings to the following units of competency:
- HLTAID011 – Provide first aid (knowledge component only)
- HLTAID014 – Provide advanced first aid (skills and knowledge)
- HLTAID015 – Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy (skills and knowledge)
Transition out of using the superseded first aid units is due to be completed October 2021.
